Hi All,
Today is Little K's birthday and she's 13, can you believe it? I figured I'd write her a little letter here...
Dear Little K,
Thirteen years ago I remember it was a Tuesday, cold and a bit overcast. Your Mom called to tell me 'this is it' (you had given her a hint the night before) and it was time for Daddy to take Mom to the hospital and for your big day to come. I was working outside of J then and had to go to work but really didn't want to. I was so worried something would happen to you and Mommy...I couldn't even concentrate!
I think Mommy and I talked on the phone until she was really in pain and then I went off to work finally.
They sent me home early and, by then, you had arrived on the scene. Thank God everyone was safe!
I talked to Mommy and she wanted one thing-DIET COKE! I stopped and got some and then raced to LGH to see you. I was SOOOOO excited to finally meet you in person. I'd be talking to you in Mommy's tummy for months and months and to finally actually see you was so fun!
I held you when you were a few hours old and said what I'd said for months, "HELLLLOOOO Baby". You turned your head and looked at me like you knew me and that was it-love at first sight.
Fast forward 13 years and I can hardly believe you're a teenager now. I got to watch you learn to walk and talk. I got to watch you learn about the world and make your Mom smile like I've never seen. You've thrown up on me, made me laugh and made me cry telling me (when you were a toddler), "I love you THIS much Anna" (holding your little arms wide open).
In knowing your Mom all these years, I know all the dreams and hopes she's had for you-that you be kind, generous, funny, accomplished in sports, in school and in life. She hoped you'd be articulate, healthy and beautiful.
Well, you are all those things and more.
You are a great person, kiddo. I love you and I'm honored to be in your life and I can't wait to see what the next 13 years brings...
-High school
-Driving
-College-ARRGGHH
-Your first job
Lord. By then your Mom and I will be....wait for it...59! Honestly, I can't wait.
You make us all proud...so Happy Happy Birthday, Little K! Here's to MANY MANY more!
