Hi All,
Yes, well, it's raining but...it's not snowing! It's sad really that the mere fact of it NOT snowing can make our days now. SIGH.
So wassup today?
I thought we'd try and have a weekly post about 'what goes on in the Jazz parking lot'...
Why?
Good question.
Here are some past highlights:
-Watching the McD's across the street go up in flames after installing a brand new HVAC unit. Then, watching the CPD blocking off a 2 block area for, seemingly, no reason and causing afternoon customers to walk over from Hannaford's because the CPD refused to remove the barracade 2 feet for them to get into our lot. "Ma'am, we have a perimeter." Uh, for what? The place is doused, the gas station next door is ok and I think you guys are just practicing for something big...now let my customers in here. (That was said in my head, not to the officer.)
-Being here doing email/paperwork and watching a man exit his car and pee in the corner outside our door, obviously thinking we were closed. We were not. Police called, man horrified to see ME as he turned around and NO I did NOT 'see anything'. (The police asked me 10x)
-Watching people fishing in the, ahem, lake we have adjacent to our parking lot. Yes, fishing. Did them catch/eat them? I do not even WANT to know.
-Seeing the shrubs near the street catch on fire and calling the CFD and waiting literally 15 mintues for them to arrive from right down the street. 1/2 block of shrubs ruined.
-Spying gypsies parked in our lot on a Saturday who decided it was a good idea to bring a loaf of bread and feed 10000 seagulls as our customers tried to walk from the parking lot into our facility. I had to address said gypsies and very nicely asked that they at least move to the end of the parking lot so the seagulls weren't directly OVER our entrance. K? Thanks.
-Watching salespeople exit their cars, enter every business trying to sell their crap and feeling satisfaction in having my door locked and just pointing at the 'no soliciting' sign and saying 'NO soliciting'. They always pull on the door multiple times and curse me, it's great!
-Watching an older lady park her HUGE buick over by the fence, then watching her back up all the way OVER the rock, getting her back wheels stuck in the air and, being that it was a REAR wheel drive car, the wheels just spinning, mid-air until the AAA guys got here.
-And then there was the Sunday morning when my car was parked (thankfully) near the fence and an older guy literally was parallel parking in between the brick columns (not sure why, we were the only place open) and he got his car STUCK in between the columns.
So, as you can see, STUFF goes on here when you're at work!
Today?
Not so much.
I've done my paperwork, learned my new routines, practiced my set, cleaned up the place a bit (as I do daily) and eaten lunch with Lilly. I've sorted Rykas for those who brought friends and earned FREE shoes and worked on a few future projects...
I'm lucky because I can do all this while looking outside. I know many folks are in cubicles and cannot see out. I sit here sometimes and I think, "Where are all those people going who drive by or stop in to get a bag of chinese food?" "I wonder where all those delivered pizzas are going from Papa J's".
I also get to think back to the early days when we moved in here. Let's see, only Evzon (the greek place), the pet store, the hair salon (that used to be next to us), Timbo's, the Seafood place (which was where Quizno's is now) and the liquor store were in here. The parking lot was NEVER full (it is a lot now) and it was kind of lonely. But, the other businesses you see (and some who've moved on already) came and it's gotten busier and less lonely over here.
And, I always feel lucky that we found this spot and have been fortunate enough to be here for 12 years. It's like a small town over here, we all watch out for each other. We have enough parking, plenty of dance space and it really is a second home to me. We hope it is to you all as well.
So, on this rainy and 'not so exciting day', I'm just feeling lucky to be here to see all the interesting things that go on in our parking lot every day!
