Ok folks, this is probably going to make me sound like I'm 100 and went to school in a one room school house on the 'prairie' but...
WTH is up with the school bus literally stopping every 50 feet to pick kids up at the end of their own driveways??? HMMM???
We had to walk to a 'central spot', maybe a few houses up and get the bus. (No, not up hill both ways or anything...HAHA)
I was driving Ally to an appointment this morning (she's doing well, BTW) and I was behind a school bus for a bit. No real problem, I was running early so I didn't really mind.
The thing that struck me was that I saw kids up the street standing in their driveways, not one house away from where the bus was stopped. Literally FEET away. The bus stopped at the first driveway, pulled their stop sign and lights in and moved up 2 houses and stopped in that driveway and so on.
Now, I do understand that our world is not as safe as it once was. But, why can't the parents (who are waiting IN their driveway with their child already) walk to their NEIGHBOR'S house and stand, all together, to wait for the bus so there is one stop, not 10????
Anyone?
Buehler?
Anyone???

I totally agree! I had the same conversation with people the other day. When my kids went to school which was not that long ago, my driveway was the main bus stop during early and middle school. High school they walked to the end of the street..ALL the neighborhood kids...with the price of gas and all the other school expenses today, you would think they would economize and make a central location on each street. Makes sense to me! But government, city, state level all the same.
I can see both sides. As an educator who has bus duty 2x daily, I know that some kids on my bus list have "special needs" and although they live a street away from their friends, they are at 2 different bus stops in close proximity to each other. I am guessing this is not well organized in some towns. In Lowell where there are masses of kids at bus stops, the stops are less frequent. The more kids that get on at a stop, the faster they get to school.
HI
One reason is that if the road does not have sidewalks they cannot ask the children to walk on the road to the other stop.I know they walk all over creation after school. But while waiting for a bus the town is responsible for them.
